UditVani, Jamshedpur : Tata Steel successfully organized the sixth edition of its prestigious Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Excellence Awards 2025 at the Steelenium Hall, Jamshedpur Works, celebrating exemplary contributions in workplace safety, employee well-being, and environmental stewardship.
Instituted in FY2020, the SHE Excellence Awards aim to promote a fair and accountable work culture while recognizing individuals and teams who demonstrate outstanding leadership and commitment in the domains of safety, health, and environment.
The initiative underscores Tata Steel’s continued focus on empowering employees as custodians of these core values.
The event was graced by T. V. Narendran, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Steel, as the Chief Guest. A virtual address by Aakash Latchman, COO of Tata Steel Netherlands, added a global perspective, highlighting the importance of leadership behavior, proactive risk anticipation, and human-centric systems in strengthening safety culture.
Marking a significant step towards inclusivity, this year’s awards introduced the “Wellness Leader Awards”, aimed at encouraging continuous improvement in health performance across departments.
The program commenced with a safety contact session centered on the “Zero Harm” philosophy, followed by an opening address from Rajiv Mangal, Vice President – Safety, Health & Sustainability. He emphasized consistent execution, personal accountability, and leadership commitment in eliminating safety and environmental risks.
He also highlighted the organization’s ongoing efforts to integrate SHE principles into daily decision-making for both employees and contractor workforce.
In his keynote address, T. V. Narendran reiterated Tata Steel’s unwavering commitment to achieving zero fatalities and maintaining stringent environmental standards.
He stressed that safety and environmental responsibility must go beyond compliance to become an intrinsic part of organizational behavior and culture.
Shailesh Kumar Singh, Deputy President of Tata Workers’ Union, spoke about the evolution of the awards and emphasized the importance of inclusion, noting that frontline workers and vendor partners are critical contributors to safety excellence.
He also acknowledged the vital role of trade unions in the company’s safety journey.
The event witnessed participation from senior leadership, managing directors of subsidiaries, union representatives, safety professionals, vendor partners, award winners, and finalists—reflecting a collective commitment towards building a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future.
The awards ceremony was conducted under the leadership and guidance of Rajiv Mangal, Vice President – Safety, Health & Sustainability, and Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Chief Safety.
The SHE Excellence Awards 2025 once again highlighted Tata Steel’s unwavering dedication to fostering a culture of safety, well-being, and sustainability across all levels of its operations.
