UditVani, Jamshedpur : A major railway accident was narrowly averted at Adityapur Yard on Wednesday morning when an unmanned freight train rolled down the tracks and rammed into another stationary goods train.
The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. near Sharma Basti, creating chaos and panic in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the speeding freight train, reportedly running without an engine, broke through the boundary wall of the yard before colliding with another goods train already stationed there.
The impact was so severe that several wagons from both trains climbed over each other, leading to heavy damage and a temporary halt in yard operations.
At the time of the incident, several labourers were unloading goods and inspecting the railway lines. Hearing the loud crash, they ran for safety, narrowly escaping harm.
Locals rushed to the site and immediately alerted railway authorities.
Preliminary reports suggest that a technical failure—possibly brake malfunction or operational negligence—may have caused the train to move uncontrollably toward the yard.
Senior railway officials, yard managers, and technical teams reached the spot soon after and began clearing the damaged wagons and restoring the rail line.
Railway sources said an initial assessment points toward a lapse in safety protocol or brake system failure, though the exact cause will be confirmed only after a detailed technical investigation.
Train movement in the area was disrupted for a few hours, but operations were later restored.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, bringing relief amid what could have been a disastrous mishap.
