UditVani, Jamshedpur: In a major breakthrough against an international cybercrime network, law enforcement agencies have arrested a key operative involved in luring Indian youth into fraudulent overseas job schemes.
The accused, Dawood Ahmed, was apprehended from Mumbai’s Dongri area by a joint operation of the Ranchi Cyber Crime Police Station under CID and the Mumbai Police.
A resident of Patna, Ahmed is believed to have been working closely with foreign handlers, targeting unemployed youth across India with promises of lucrative data entry jobs abroad.
During the raid, officials recovered multiple mobile phones, SIM cards, a passport, and crucial digital evidence, indicating the existence of a wider transnational network.
Investigations have revealed a strong link to Jamshedpur. A local agent, Sartaj Alam from Azadnagar in Mango, allegedly trapped at least three unemployed youths by offering fake job opportunities.
The victims were routed through Bangkok, Thailand, and trafficked to the notorious KK Park cyber scam compound in Myanmar, where they were held captive and coerced into carrying out cyber fraud.
Sartaj Alam had earlier been arrested on February 18 and is currently in judicial custody. The case came to light after 15 youths from Jharkhand—three of them from Jamshedpur—were rescued from overseas captivity.
Based on the victims’ testimonies, authorities have intensified their investigation into financial transactions and the broader international network behind the racket.
Efforts are also underway to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate.
The case highlights the growing threat of cyber-enabled human trafficking and serves as a stark warning against fraudulent overseas job offers targeting vulnerable job seekers.
