UditVani, Jamshedpur: The Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata—one of India’s premier World Athletics Gold Label races—is witnessing unprecedented registration numbers as the city gears up for its landmark 10th edition.
The surge reflects Kolkata’s deepening passion for distance running and its growing status as a national hub for participative sports.
The countdown celebrations began today with an energetic exhibition football match, “Bhaichung’s 10,” led by football icon and TSW 25K Ratna Bhaichung Bhutia.
Nine registered runners from the Ananda Run category joined him on the turf for a spirited five-a-side game, setting an enthusiastic tone for this milestone edition. The event brought together athletes, sponsors, partners, and celebrities in a show of unity and sporting camaraderie.
Bhutia said, “It is a privilege to lead ‘Bhaichung’s 10’ and begin the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata. The energy and diversity I witnessed truly represent Kolkata’s heart. I urge everyone to register and make this edition unforgettable.”
Tata Steel’s D. B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President – Corporate Services, highlighted the city’s overwhelming response: “The record-breaking participation this year reflects Kolkata’s vibrant spirit and passion. This event unites the community in celebrating fitness, resilience, and the joy of running.”
Registrations across all race categories—25K, Open 10K, Ananda Run, Senior Citizens’ Run, and Champions with Disability—are filling rapidly.
Organisers have urged runners to register soon at the official portal before slots sell out.
IDFC FIRST Bank’s Chief Marketing Officer, Shreepad Shende, drew parallels between disciplined running and financial wellbeing, noting the bank’s continued commitment to the event.
Vivek Singh, Joint MD, Procam International, added, “The 10th edition preparations are in full swing. Over the years, this event has transformed Kolkata into a proud running city.”
