UditVani, Jamshedpur : In a significant step toward advancing cancer care and strengthening health communication, Manipal Hospitals has launched its unique initiative, ‘Anweshana – Medical Education for Media’, in Jamshedpur.
The program, spearheaded by its EM Bypass unit, also witnessed the unveiling of a special Media Privilege Card aimed at offering journalists improved access to quality healthcare services and exclusive benefits.
Rising Cancer Burden Raises Concern
During the session, experts highlighted the alarming rise in cancer cases across India.
According to national estimates, over 1.4 million new cancer cases are diagnosed annually.
Jharkhand, too, is witnessing a steady surge, with oral, lung, cervical, breast, and genitourinary cancers being the most prevalent.
A major concern remains late diagnosis, with more than 60% of cases detected at advanced stages, making treatment increasingly complex.
Additionally, due to limited awareness and access to advanced facilities, nearly 30–40% of patients from the region are compelled to seek treatment in metropolitan cities.
‘Anweshana’: Bridging the Gap Between Medicine and Media
The Anweshana initiative aims to simplify complex medical knowledge and promote responsible health journalism.
By empowering media professionals with accurate information, the program seeks to enhance public awareness around critical health issues.
The newly introduced Media Privilege Card further underscores the hospital’s commitment to the well-being of journalists, ensuring easier access to healthcare and special concessions.
Robotic Surgery: A New Era in Cancer Treatment
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Abhay Kumar, Consultant and Head of Uro-Oncology & Robotic Surgery at Manipal Hospital EM Bypass, emphasized the transformative role of advanced technology in cancer care.
He noted that robotic-assisted surgeries offer unparalleled precision, reduced pain, minimal blood loss, and faster recovery -significantly improving patient outcomes.
The hospital is backed by a team of over 20 experienced oncologists dedicated to delivering personalized, patient-centric treatment.
Survivors Share Stories of Hope
Adding a deeply human touch to the event, cancer survivors shared their journeys of resilience and recovery.
Many credited timely diagnosis and cutting-edge treatments like robotic surgery for restoring not just their health, but also their quality of life.
The initiative marks a progressive move by Manipal Hospitals to combine medical excellence with informed communication -bringing renewed hope to patients and the broader community alike.
