
UditVani, Jamshedpur : The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) Jamshedpur Chapter celebrates the IIM Foundation Day on February 24, 2026 to inspire the younger generation associated with Metallurgy and Materials Science by inviting students of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MME) from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur and BIT Sindri. The event commenced with Elevator Pitch competition for students and IIM members at Beldih club from 2:00 PM onwards. The topics assigned for the elevator pitch were ‘Future challenges in Metallurgy and Material Science’ for the student category and ‘Recent developments in Metallurgy and Materials science’ for the IIM (individual member) category, respectively.
Following the Elevator Pitch competition, the IIM Jamshedpur Chapter hosted Expert talks with the prime objective of inspiring and motivating young minds, and sparking their passion and ambition. These talks were delivered by Dr. Anup Kumar, a recipient of the prestigious IIM National Metallurgist Award – 2025, Dr. Ammasi and Mr. Kaushal, both of whom are recipients of the prestigious IIM Young Metallurgist Award– 2025.

Additionally, the chapter organised the felicitation program to honour individuals who received awards at the last IIM-ATM 2025 function (members associated with the chapter) held at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad immediately after the Expert talk.
The event was graced by an esteemed panel of dignitaries including Dr. Gautam Sutradhar, Director, NIT Jamshedpur, as a chief guest and Dr. Atanu Ranjan Pal as a Chairman, IIM Jamshedpur Chapter. Dr. Pal delivered the welcome address emphasising the scope and benefits of the IIM platform and suggested the students to be a part of IIM platform for networking and personal growth. This was followed felicitation of the awardees. Dr. Gautam Sutradhar, the Chief Guest, delivered a short speech wherein he motivated the students regarding prospective career opportunities in the field of materials and metallurgical engineering.
Over 150 participants attended, comprising students, IIM members, eminent professionals and executive committee members of IIM Jamshedpur chapters including Dr Soumitra Tarafder, Prof. Ashok Kumar, Dr. A N Bhagat, Dr. V. C. Srivastava, Dr. Himanshu Mishra and Dr. T. Bhaskar and others. This event provides a unique opportunity for all the participants to gain insights and perspective from industry and R&D experts. The program was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Gopi Kishor Mandal, Secretary of IIM, Jamshedpur Chapter.
