UditVani, Jamshedpur : BJP MP Bidyut Baran Mahato on Monday raised the long-pending Bagbera Rural Water Supply Scheme in the Lok Sabha under Rule 377, terming the situation “serious and deeply concerning.”
He urged the Central government to fast-track the project so that thousands of rural families finally receive access to clean drinking water.
Mahato said the Bagbera and Govindpur water supply schemes were launched between 2014 and 2019 with Central assistance.
However, despite being initiated earlier, the Bagbera project remains only 40% complete, while the Govindpur project—started later—has already been finished.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work, Mahato pointed out that the Jal Jeevan Mission aims to ensure tap water supply to every rural household, yet progress in Jharkhand has been disappointing.
Pipeline laying, pump house construction and water supply testing have been stalled for months, forcing villagers to continue fetching water from far-off places.
He added that this situation persists despite adequate funds being provided by the Centre.
“Lakhs of rural families in Jharkhand are still waiting for drinking water facilities,” the MP said.
Urging immediate action, Mahato requested the Centre to prioritise the project and release any pending financial assistance to ensure timely completion of the Bagbera water supply scheme.
“The people of Bagbera deserve early relief,” he stressed.
