UditVani,Jamshedpur : In a proactive move to ensure inclusive and accessible voting during the upcoming Ghatshila Assembly by-election 2025, the District Monitoring Committee on Accessible Election (DMCAE) convened a crucial meeting under the chairmanship of District Election Officer (DEO) Karan Satyarthi at the Collectorate auditorium, Jamshedpur.
The meeting focused on ensuring seamless participation of differently-abled voters by strengthening accessibility at polling stations and promoting voter awareness. Discussions were held on the organization of special awareness programmes, preparation of accessible polling booths, appointment and training of volunteers, and the availability of necessary assistance on polling day.
As per the Election Commission’s guidelines, the DEO directed all concerned departments and institutions to ensure that every polling station is equipped with ramps, wheel chairs, toilets, Braille facilities, help desks, and transport arrangements for differently-abled voters. “Providing equal opportunity and a dignified voting experience to every voter is our top priority,” Satyarthi emphasized. He further instructed officials to work in close coordination to bridge any remaining gaps so that no voter is deprived of smooth access to the polling process.
The DEO also informed that the district administration has already initiated measures to restore and strengthen facilities for differently-abled voters across all polling centers, with a time-bound review of any shortcomings.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Development Commissioner, Deputy Election Officer, District Welfare Officer, District Public Relations Officer, District Education Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, engineers from the Building Division, and representatives of organizations working for persons with disabilities.
