UditVani, Jamshedpur : For defender Sarthak, football has always been more than just a game—it’s been a way of life. His love for the sport began at the age of five, tagging along with his father, a footballer himself, to the training grounds.
“My father was my first coach, my biggest supporter, and also my toughest critic,” Sarthak recalls adding “Watching him play sparked my passion. I’d kick the ball around while he trained, and that’s how it all began.”
That early foundation has carried him into professional football, where he proudly dons the red jersey of Jamshedpur FC. “It was an absolute pleasure to represent Jamshedpur. From day one, I felt at home. Playing my first match in the Durand Cup was an honour,” he says.
On the pitch, Sarthak defines himself as a no-nonsense defender. “I’m a proper defender—tough, never ready to give up.
Protecting my team at all costs gives me joy. Every tackle, goal-line clearance, or block is a moment that makes me feel I’ve done my job.” His growth has been shaped by mentors like local academy coach Bastab Roy and former India youth coach Colm Toal, who he credits for having a major impact on his career.
Sarthak has already enjoyed career-defining moments, from wearing the JFC jersey for the first time to representing India on the international stage. “Wearing the national jersey was always an honour. I hope to do that again,” he adds.
Off the pitch, he keeps things simple, finding calm in music and leisure activities like watching movies or shopping.
Expressing gratitude to fans, Sarthak says, “The Jamshedpur supporters have made me feel at home from day one. Whenever I play, I promise to give my best for the team and bring joy to our supporters. Thank you for always standing by us.”
