
UditVani, Jamshedpur : In a major success against the illegal drug trade, Kapali police arrested a notorious brown sugar peddler and sent him to jail.
The accused, identified as 23-year-old Jambo Mahato of Tamolia under Kapali OP area, was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
According to Kapali OP in-charge Dheeranjan Kumar, police had been receiving continuous inputs about the illegal sale of brown sugar in the Tamolia region.
Acting on these leads, the police had earlier raided Ramu Chowk and arrested Mohammad Sarfaraz Sheikh with 21 pouches of brown sugar. He has already been sent to jail by court order.
Following Sheikh’s arrest, police were on the lookout for the main peddler, Jambo Mahato.
Based on a tip-off, the police team nabbed him on Monday, interrogated him, and produced him in court, which ordered his judicial custody.
Kumar stated that no person involved in the drug trade will be spared and that the campaign against narcotics will continue. He also appealed to the public to share any information related to drug activities so that youths can be protected from falling into the trap of addiction.
The police action has brought relief to locals, who believe that such strict measures will help weaken the roots of drug networks and foster a healthier social environment.
