Udit Vani, Jamshedpur : Incessant rainfall over the past two days in East Singhbhum district has led to a sharp rise in water levels of the Subernarekha and Kharkai rivers, pushing them dangerously close to their respective danger marks.
The district administration has swung into action, placing all concerned departments on high alert and issuing advisories to residents in low-lying and riverbank areas.
Current River Status:
Subernarekha River (Mango Bridge Site)
Danger Level: 121.50 meters
Current Level: 121.30 meters
Kharkai River (Adityapur Bridge Site)
Danger Level: 129.00 meters
Current Level: 128.78 meters
With the water level just centimeters below the danger threshold, officials warn that further rainfall could lead to potential flooding, particularly in vulnerable neighborhoods like Bagbera, Shankosai, Kadma, Sonari, Adityapur, and Mango.
District Administration’s Emergency Measures:
* The District Control Room has been activated around the clock.
* Local municipal bodies and revenue officials have been put on high alert.
* NDRF teams, disaster response personnel, boats, life jackets, and other flood-relief gear are on standby.
* Citizens are strictly advised not to venture near riverbanks and to move to higher, safer ground if necessary.
With more rain forecast in the coming hours, the next 24 hours are being considered crucial.
Residents in flood-prone zones are advised to prepare emergency supplies and stay updated through verified government channels.
