Jamshedpur : Tata Steel today inaugurated the Phase II expansion of its Kalinganagar plant in Odisha, ramping up its crude steel production capacity from 3 to 8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
The Rs 27,000 crore investment marks a major milestone in Tata Steel’s growth strategy and further cements Odisha as the company’s largest investment hub.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the state-of-the-art facility in Jajpur district, was graced by Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi, alongwith key ministers, local leaders, and Tata Steel’s CEO and MD T. V. Narendran.
Narendran emphasized the collaborative spirit behind the project, stating, “Kalinganagar is more than a manufacturing site—it reflects our shared vision for a stronger, self-reliant India.”
The expanded plant will produce advanced high-strength steels catering to critical sectors such as automotive, defence, infrastructure, shipbuilding, and power, supporting the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Key features of the expansion include India’s largest blast furnace (5,870 m³), a new pellet plant, coke plant, and a cold rolling mill, all incorporating eco-friendly and energy-efficient technologies.
