UditVani, Jamshedpur : A suspected leopard sighting inside the Tatanagar Railway Yard has triggered panic among railway employees and residents after a video showing a leopard-like wild animal roaming through dense bushes went viral on social media.
The alarming footage has prompted swift action from the Tatanagar railway administration, which has formally approached Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Saba Alam Ansari, sharing the video and requesting immediate intervention.
Given the railway yard’s significance as a high-activity operational zone with constant staff movement and train shunting, authorities are treating the matter with utmost seriousness.
Responding to the alert, the forest department has deployed a specialised team under the leadership of a researcher and a forester Mithun to inspect the area and assess the threat.
Officials have begun intensive surveillance and are preparing to install trap cameras to confirm the animal’s presence and track its movements.
The sighting has sparked fear among residents of nearby railway colonies, particularly as large sections of the yard are surrounded by thick vegetation and isolated patches that could provide shelter to a wild predator.
In a joint advisory, railway and forest officials have urged people to remain cautious and avoid venturing alone into deserted areas, especially after dark.
Residents have also been advised not to approach or attempt to record any wild animal, but to immediately alert authorities if they notice suspicious movement.
Security patrols and monitoring across the railway yard have been intensified as officials await clearer evidence through field inspections and camera footage.
“Public safety is our highest priority. The situation is being closely monitored, and necessary steps are being taken to ensure there is no threat to residents or railway personnel,” said a forest official.
