UditVani, Jamshedpur : A youth was shot dead near Carmel Junior College under the Sonari police station area in broad -day- light today.
The shooting incident which took place at around 11.30 am triggered a sensation in the locality.
The murder victim was identified as Suraj Pramanik, a resident of Parsudih, in the outskirts of the city.
According to sources, the victim was seated inside his autorickshaw at an open field behind the Carmel Junior College, apparently waiting for someone at about 11.30 am when a couple of youths arrived there and started firing targeting him.
In the spur of moment, the victim somehow escaped unhurt and started running for safety. But, the assailants chased him and shot him dead at a little distance away before fleeing the spot.
Sources said Suraj Pramanik used to stay at Sonari about a decade ago but he had to leave the area after developing enmity with some local goons.
According to sources Suraj Pramanik had started staying at Parsudih area in the eastern fringe of the steel city, but he had started visiting Sonari since the past few days again.
It is suspected that Suraj Pramanik’s murder might have been committed in a sequel to an old enmity.
DSP (Headquarters-II) Niranjan Tiwary who reached the spot soon after getting information about the shooting incident said they cannot say much about the murder, adding that investigation was on.
” Prima facie it appears to be an old enmity that led to the murder. Detailed investigation is on. The culprits would be booked soon, ” he said.
