UditVani, Jamshedpur: In a significant move to modernize security and passenger convenience, Tatanagar Railway Station has installed advanced Electronic Bollard Barriers in its portico lane. On Thursday afternoon, a team of specialized technicians successfully conducted a trial of the system, which is designed to regulate vehicle entry while ensuring a seamless path for emergency services.
The Mechanism: Smart and Secure (High-Tech Security System)
The newly installed bollards are remote-controlled automated barriers. Upon the arrival of an ambulance, fire brigade, or authorized VIP vehicles, the bollards automatically retract into the ground via remote command. Once the vehicle passes, they rise back up to block unauthorized entry. This high-security infrastructure is typically utilized in sensitive zones such as embassies, military headquarters, and premium corporate hospitals.
Implementation Under DRM’s Direction
The project was executed by the Railway Engineering Department following instructions from DRM Tarun Huria of the Chakradharpur Division. A specialized agency from Delhi, known for high-security installations, was brought in for the setup. While parking personnel are expected to manage the daily operation of the bollards, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel may be deployed to oversee security and ensure smooth functioning.
Prioritizing Passenger Comfort
The transition to electronic bollards comes after previous attempts to secure the portico lane caused inconvenience to passengers. Earlier, the railway had installed steel angles and dividers which, while stopping unauthorized cars, created hurdles for the elderly, patients, and differently-abled passengers using wheelchairs. Following feedback regarding these difficulties, the administration decided to replace the static barriers with this high-tech, flexible solution. Additionally, the dividers have been modified to be wheelchair-friendly.
Benefits for Emergency and Transit Services
The installation of the electronic bollards offers several key advantages:
• Zero Congestion: The portico lane will remain free from unnecessary crowds and unauthorized parking.
• Enhanced Safety: The sensitive entrance area of the station is now better protected against security threats.
• Rapid Emergency Response: Ambulances and fire tenders can now reach the station entrance without delay, ensuring timely assistance for passengers in need.
