UditVani, Ranchi: In a significant step towards strengthening environmental safety and public health, Jharkhand will now carry out GIS mapping of biomedical waste across the state. The Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board has initiated this move under the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016.
As part of this initiative, a comprehensive list of all biomedical waste (BMW) generators and users in the state will be prepared, followed by their GIS mapping. To facilitate this process, the Pollution Control Board has floated a tender for the collection of data related to biomedical waste generation, treatment, and disposal, along with listing and mapping of occupiers.
The will help to create a detailed database of biomedical waste users and systematically collect information on waste generation, treatment, and disposal practices. This will help in better monitoring and regulation of biomedical waste across Jharkhand.
Future Planning and Assessment
The initiative will also enable authorities to assess the future requirements of biomedical waste management facilities in the state. The selected agency will be responsible for collecting relevant data, preparing a comprehensive list of occupiers, and carrying out GIS mapping of all users associated with biomedical waste generation, treatment, and disposal facilities.
This move is expected to improve efficiency, transparency, and compliance in biomedical waste management, ensuring safer handling and disposal practices statewide.
