
UditVani, Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur Women’s University formally welcomed its new Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ila Kumar, who took charge on Monday amid a warm and culturally vibrant function on the campus.
The welcome ceremony featured traditional dance performances by students, while NSS volunteers greeted the new Vice-Chancellor with a disciplined clapping tribute. Dean of Student Welfare, Dr. Kishwar Ara, presented a bouquet as part of the formal reception.
A special function organized by the Teachers’ Association marked the transition, where the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Anjila Gupta, was accorded a heartfelt farewell alongside the official welcome of Prof. Ila Kumar.
In her farewell address, Prof. Anjila Gupta grew emotional, describing the university as a “growing child” and reflecting on her journey with deep attachment. She expressed gratitude for the support of her team and said her bond with the institution would always remain strong.
Senior officials including Registrar Dr. Salomi Kujur, Controller of Examinations Dr. Rama Subrahmanyan, and Finance Officer Dr. Javed Ahmad shared their experiences and assured full cooperation to the new leadership.
Speaking after assuming charge, Prof. Ila Kumar laid out a balanced and forward-looking vision for the university. She emphasized the need to carry forward the strong foundation laid by her predecessor while focusing on advancing technical education.
Acknowledging staff shortages as a challenge, she underscored the importance of a positive academic environment and collective effort.
Expressing confidence in the university community, she said that with teamwork, dedication, and a shared vision, the institution can achieve new heights and strengthen its academic profile.
