
UditVani, Jamshedpur : Jamshedpur witnessed a moment of immense pride as Samir Pandey, the first person of Indian origin to become Lord Mayor in Australia, was recently felicitated at the residential office of senior BJP leader Abhay Singh.
Supporters and well-wishers welcomed him with flower garlands, marking the occasion as a historic achievement not just for him but for the entire city.
The celebrations began with prayers and aarti at the temple of Goddess Durga, seeking blessings for his continued success.
Following the rituals, Abhay Singh honoured Samir Pandey with a ceremonial shawl, reflecting India’s rich cultural traditions and values.
Addressing those present, Abhay Singh said it was a matter of great pride that a son of Jamshedpur has risen to become the Lord Mayor of Parramatta in Sydney, a distinction never achieved before by anyone from the city.
He went on to say that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had congratulated Pandey on an international platform in Australia, calling his achievement a source of national pride.
Samir Pandey, speaking on the occasion, said that Indians today enjoy great respect and recognition in Australia, largely due to the global stature and leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
He remarked that Australia’s outlook towards India has changed significantly in recent years and that Indians are now held in high esteem across the country.
Expressing his emotional connect with his hometown, he said he deeply misses Jamshedpur and thanked Abhay Singh for the warm and gracious honour.
He also extended a formal invitation to Abhay Singh to visit Australia.
