UditVani, Jamshedpur: Chaos prevailed at the Mango police station on Sunday night after a dispute between two groups over a car collision spiralled into violence inside the station premises. The two sides clashed with each other, leading to scuffles and vandalism within the police station. In the process of trying to control the situation, a few policemen also sustained minor injuries.
The situation deteriorated to such an extent that several chairs kept inside the police station were broken, important files were scattered and file racks were damaged. Police had to struggle for a considerable time to restore order, following which the Quick Response Team (QRT) was called in. With the intervention of the QRT, the two groups were finally separated.
On receiving information, DSP Headquarters–I Bhola Prasad reached the Mango police station and took stock of the situation. Police have taken four persons into custody in connection with the incident and are questioning them.
According to police sources, the dispute originated around 8.30 pm on Sunday on Mango Road No. 1, following a collision between two cars. What began as a heated argument soon escalated into a physical clash on the road, leaving four persons from both sides injured. Subsequently, both parties reached the Mango police station to lodge complaints, where they once again came face to face, triggering another round of violence.
Rahmat Khan alias Ann, a resident of Mango Road No. 1, alleged that after the collision, Sayan Ahmed, along with his associates Anju and Sarfaraz, attacked his son Saad Saeed Khan. He further claimed that Saif Ali and Amir Alam were injured in an assault allegedly carried out with a razor.
On the other hand, Mukhtar Ahmed, uncle of Sayan Ahmed, claimed that Sayan was travelling in a car with his friends when Rahmat Khan, his son Araf Saeed Khan and others pelted stones at the vehicle, causing serious injuries to Sanju. He alleged that even after Sayan reached the police station to lodge a complaint, he was assaulted again.
It is learnt that the two groups have been at loggerheads for some time over the operation of a hospital, which is being viewed as a major underlying reason behind the violent confrontation. Police are investigating the matter from all angles.
