UditVani, Jamshedpur : A 50-year-old jail warder was arrested for allegedly molesting a seven-year-old girl at Bhalubasa under Sitaramdera police station on Tuesday night.
The accused, Sanjay Kumar Singh, posted at Ghaghidih Central Jail, reportedly lured the child from near her house to the rooftop of a three-storey building with malicious intent.
Alert locals, noticing the man with the girl, followed him and caught him in the act. Singh tried to flee but was overpowered and beaten by residents.
When police arrived, the crowd turned violent, accusing them of shielding the accused.
Later, after the intervention of former Chief Minister Raghubar Das, senior officers took swift action and arrested Singh.
He has been remanded to judicial custody, while the victim was taken to MGM Medical College and Hospital for medical examination.
