UditVani, Jamshedpur: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in Jharkhand, the Seraikela-Kharsawan district administration successfully conducted an online auction of seized sand, earning Rs 2.30 crore in revenue.
The e-auction covered nearly 12 lakh cubic feet of seized sand. While the base price was fixed at Rs 1.72 crore, competitive online bidding pushed the final amount significantly higher, resulting in additional revenue for the state.
Deputy Commissioner Nitish Kumar Singh said the adoption of a transparent, technology-driven auction system for the disposal of seized minerals is a strong step towards good governance.
He noted that the process not only helps curb illegal mining but also ensures lawful utilisation of resources and maximises state revenue.
Similar online auctions will be prioritised in future cases, he added.
