Udit Vani, Jamshedpur: With the aim of making the upcoming mega blood donation camp a historic success, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Sona Devi University has launched a sustained, well-planned and wide-ranging public awareness campaign.
The blood donation camp is scheduled to be held on December 22, at the university campus.
As part of this initiative, NSS volunteers organised a special outreach and awareness programme covering Mau Bhandar, Gurudwara Road, Dahigora, Circus Ground and up to Sanskriti Parishad.
The primary objective of the drive was to sensitise the general public about the importance, necessity and social responsibility associated with blood donation, and to encourage their active participation in this life-saving cause.
The awareness programme was successfully conducted under the leadership of Dean of Social Sciences Dr Neelmani Kumar, NSS Programme Officer Dr Shivchand Jha, and Nodal Officer P Mali.
During the campaign, NSS volunteers engaged directly with local residents, youth, shopkeepers and passers-by, addressing common myths and misconceptions related to blood donation with scientific facts.
They emphasised that blood donation is a completely safe process and a powerful means of saving lives, while also reflecting an individual’s humanitarian duty towards society.
Addressing the occasion, Dr Neelmani Kumar stated that blood donation is the highest form of human service. He described the university’s initiative as an inspiring step towards strengthening compassion, cooperation and collective responsibility in society, and urged people from all sections to participate in large numbers.
NSS Programme Officer Dr Shivchand Jha highlighted that the need for blood transcends caste, religion and social divisions.
He noted that blood donation is truly a gift of life, often proving crucial in emergencies to save unknown lives. Calling upon the youth to come forward, he said that NSS aims to nurture values of service, discipline and social responsibility among young people.
Nodal Officer P Mali, while addressing women and young girls in particular, stressed that increasing awareness about blood donation is the need of the hour.
She said that active participation of women helps dispel fears and sends a strong positive message to society.
During the programme, NSS volunteers distributed pamphlets, raised awareness slogans and interacted personally with citizens to share detailed information about the mega blood donation camp on December 22, at the Sona Devi University campus.
Local residents appreciated the humanitarian initiative and expressed their willingness to take part in the camp.
The programme concluded with a collective resolve to continue similar awareness drives in the coming days, with the objective of transforming blood donation into a mass movement and ensuring that the proposed mega camp emerges as a landmark achievement.
