UditVani, Jamshedpur : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert for Jharkhand, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning over several parts of the state for the next four days.
According to the IMD, on August 1 and 2, heavy showers are expected particularly over the north-eastern and north-central districts.
Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds with speeds reaching 30 to 40 kmph are likely at isolated places.
Similar weather conditions are expected to continue on August 3 and 4 across several parts of the state.
Meteorological experts attribute the activity to the position of the monsoon trough, which at mean sea level currently extends from Sri Ganganagar to the northeast Bay of Bengal via Rohtak, Banda, Sidhi, Ranchi and Diamond Harbour.
An upper air cyclonic circulation persisting over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh up to 7.6 km above mean sea level is also fuelling the weather activity.
The state has so far received 50 per cent surplus rainfall this monsoon, which has improved water levels in reservoirs and aided agricultural operations.
However, authorities have urged residents to remain alert during thunderstorms and lightning, and advised farmers to plan field activities with caution.
