
UditVani, Jamshedpur : A flood alert has been issued for parts of Jamshedpur as water levels in the region’s major rivers—Kharkai and Subernarekha—continue to swell following incessant rainfall over the past couple of days.
Authorities have urged residents living in low-lying and river-adjacent areas to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
According to official data :
Kharkai River, at the Adityapur Bridge monitoring point, has crossed the danger mark, recording a level of 129.96 metres, well above its designated danger level of 129.00 metres.
Subernarekha River, measured at the Mango Bridge site, is approaching critical levels, currently flowing at 120.64 metres, just shy of its danger mark of 121.50 metres.
District administration teams, along with disaster response units, are on high alert.
Vigilance has been intensified along embankments and vulnerable zones. Warning signage, patrolling, and emergency communication systems have been activated.
“People residing in flood-prone localities such as Bagbera, Mango, Shastrinagar, and low-lying areas of Adityapur are requested to remain cautious. Evacuation arrangements are in place if needed,” said a senior official from the District Disaster Management Authority.
With further rainfall forecast for the region, the situation remains fluid.
Authorities have appealed to citizens to stay away from riverbanks, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains, and follow official advisories closely.
