UditVani Correspondent, Adityapur: Heavy rains early Saturday morning led to rainwater entering nearly 25 houses in Kalpanapuri and Ashok Vihar colonies under the Adityapur Municipal Corporation area. Residents reported significant inconvenience as household goods, grains, and medicines were damaged. The incident reportedly occurred around 3:00 AM. Locals blamed the Adityapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) for negligence and inadequate pre-monsoon preparedness.
Sewage Overflow Blamed for Flooding
According to residents, the drainage system carrying runoff from NIT and Ichhapur Basti was clogged. As a result, the overflowing drain water entered residential homes. Locals allege that had the AMC properly cleaned the major drains before the onset of monsoon—as promised—such a situation could have been avoided.
Normal Life Disrupted by Continuous Rainfall
Persistent rainfall over the past two days has thrown daily life into disarray. Most residential areas within the AMC limits are witnessing waterlogging on internal roads. People have largely remained indoors, while markets wore a deserted look due to limited public movement.
DC Orders Precautionary Measures in Vulnerable Areas
Considering the continuous rain and changing weather conditions, District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Nitish Kumar Singh held an emergency virtual review meeting today with district and block-level officials. The meeting focused on assessing preparedness for potential waterlogging and flood scenarios.
The DC directed officials to increase vigilance and strengthen safety measures in areas near Chandil, Sitarampur Dam, Gazhiya Barrage, and surrounding villages of Adityapur. He also instructed that all potentially affected families be relocated to safer places in advance.
Monitoring of Dam Water Levels & Emergency Communication Plan
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the real-time monitoring of water levels at various dams. In case of a situation requiring the opening of dam gates, authorities must ensure that all downstream areas are fully prepared. Public awareness campaigns should be launched to inform and alert residents well in time.
Take Pre-Disaster Action in Sensitive Areas” – DC’s Firm Stand
The DC ordered that preventive measures in vulnerable areas must be completed before any disaster strikes. He directed all Block Development Officers, Circle Officers, Municipal Executive Officers, and magistrates to immediately return from leave or outstation assignments, if any, and resume duty.
No official is permitted to remain absent from headquarters without proper approval, he added, emphasizing that negligence or indifference will not be tolerated. He also instructed regional officers to conduct regular field inspections, monitor the ground situation closely, and keep the district headquarters updated in real time.
