UditVani, Jamshedpur : Tata Steel Special Economic Zone’s Gopalpur Industrial Park (GIP) has joined the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Transitioning Industrial Clusters Initiative, a global platform that brings together industry leaders to accelerate decarbonisation while driving economic growth and job creation. This initiative, led in collaboration with Accenture and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), aims to foster sustainable, energy-efficient industrial ecosystems.
Situated in Ganjam district, Odisha, GIP is rapidly emerging as a hub for green hydrogen, green ammonia, and clean energy equipment manufacturing. Aligning with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, GIP is set to play a key role in positioning the country as a global leader in green fuel production and export.
Manikanta Naik, Managing Director, Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Limited, said, “GIP’s participation in this initiative underscores our commitment to sustainable industrial growth. With a strong focus on green hydrogen and renewable energy, we are aligning infrastructure and investment with India’s clean energy vision.”
GIP has earmarked 25% of its land for green energy projects and has already signed agreements with multiple players targeting >2 million tonnes of green ammonia capacity, with investments exceeding Rs. 27,000 Crores. This would enable GIP to contribute nearly 10% of India’s green ammonia target by 2030.
Key infrastructure includes a dedicated 2.5 km utility corridor to Gopalpur Port for global exports, a planned desalination plant for sustainable water use, and efforts to ensure green power transmission from western India. Plans are also underway for a Common Effluent Treatment Plant to manage industrial wastewater sustainably.
With several new green projects expected to launch soon, GIP is cementing its place as a catalyst in India’s clean energy revolution.
