Uditvani, Jharkhand: The Ranchi Meteorological Centre has sounded an alert for thunderstorms over several parts of Jharkhand through April 20, warning of lightning and strong winds over the next few days.
What to Expect:
April 18: Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are likely in isolated areas of North-Eastern, South-Eastern, and parts of Central Jharkhand.
April 19: Similar conditions are forecast to persist across most of the state, with the exception of Western Jharkhand.
April 20: Thunderstorms will continue, but wind speeds may dip slightly to 30-40 kmph. Western regions are again expected to be spared.
Why the Sudden Turbulence?
Meteorologists point to two active weather systems behind the instability:
A westerly trough stretching from Sikkim to North Odisha, cutting across West Bengal and Jharkhand, hovering at altitudes between 3.1 and 5.8 Km above sea level.
Another trough linked to a cyclonic circulation over East Madhya Pradesh, extending through Chhattisgarh into Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand, active up to 1.5 km above sea level.
Safety Advisory:
Officials urge residents to remain indoors during storms, secure loose items, and monitor updates from local authorities.
