UditVani, Jamshedpur : The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) today celebrated its 78th Foundation Day by hosting an ‘Industry Meet’ at Hotel Vivanta in Golmuri.
The event attracted over 100 participants from Jharkhand’s large, medium, small, and micro industrial sectors.
Kaushalendra Kumar, Joint Director, Bureau of Indian Standards, said the programme’s objective and highlighted the role of medium and large-scale manufacturers in broadening the base of stakeholder participation in standard formation.
He discussed Standardization Cells, the Annual Programme for Standardization, MoUs with academic institutions, the proactive role of industry in identifying subjects and formulating standards, Manak Manthan, and the Young Professionals Programme in the standards formulation process.
He also stressed the significance of BIS certification for businesses. “We are holding this Industry Meet as part of our Foundation Day. There are several benefits that industries can avail themselves of through BIS,” he said.
Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Chief Guest and Director of National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), commended BIS’s role in ensuring quality and innovation.
“The Foundation Day not only marks the journey of BIS but also that of the entire country in terms of quality, trust, and innovation. BIS has been at the forefront in setting benchmarks for the progress of the country,” he said.
BIS certification has helped Indian products gain global recognition, Chowdhury noted, aligning with the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision.
Ratan Kumar Mallik, Special Guest General Manager of Bokaro Steel Plant (SAIL), underscored BIS’s contribution to aligning Indian standards with international norms.
“BIS has a profound impact on India’s economic growth. It has brought our products at par with international quality standards, aiding the country’s growth in terms of quality and safety,” he said.
Prof. Mrityunjay Kumar Sinha, Special Guest, Dean of Research and Consultancy at NIT Jamshedpur, highlighted the vast scope of BIS’s standardization efforts, from bedsheets to jewelry.
Santokh Singh, Special Guest ,Vice President of the Adityapur Small Industries Association (ASIA), noted the role of BIS standards in elevating local industries. “Many industries in the Adityapur Industrial Area are registered with BIS. Due to continuous improvements in quality standards by BIS, our industries are contributing to building a New India,” Singh said.
Anjan Kundu, Special Guest ,Senior Engineer and Chief Vigilance Officer at IDTR Jamshedpur, a Ministry of MSME unit, spoke about government initiatives to promote entrepreneurship and skill development through training programs. He also added that broadening the stakeholder base in standards formulation benefits BIS, industries, students, and common consumers.
Prabhu Nath Yadav Joint Director ,BIS delivered a detailed presentation on broadening stakeholder participation, the Manak Pravardhak Programme, the SMART Initiative, international footprints, capacity building, the importance of BIS standards, and the process of obtaining certifications.
He also updated attendees on recent Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued by BIS, including industrial coke and the Omnibus Technical Regulation.
The presentation was followed by an engaging question-and-answer session, with participants eager to learn more about the benefits of BIS certification.
