UditVani, Jamshedpur: On December 13, thirty winners of the Young Astronomer Talent Search (YATS) 2024 were felicitated by Mohan Charan Majhi, the Chief Minister of Odisha, at the Pathani Samanta Planetarium in Bhubaneswar. This prestigious event, part of the 18th edition of YATS, recognized the extraordinary talent of young minds from across the state.
Widespread Participation and Talent Recognition
Organized by Tata Steel in collaboration with the Pathani Samanta Planetarium under the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of Odisha, this year’s competition saw participation from over 71,000 students across 30 districts. The event has become a cornerstone in fostering young scientific curiosity and talent in Odisha.
Government Officials Applaud Young Achievers
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his admiration for the innovative ideas presented by the students. “I thank Tata Steel and the Pathani Samanta Planetarium for their efforts in promoting talent and education through YATS. The future of our country depends on nurturing young minds like these,” said Majhi.
Krushna Chandra Patra, Minister of Science and Technology, also shared his enthusiasm, stating, “The 30 students being honored today are the real strength of our nation. Their achievements will make the country proud.”

Rajiv Kumar, Vice President, Operations at Tata Steel Kalinganagar, highlighted the significance of the YATS program. “For nearly two decades, YATS has ignited curiosity and inspired students to explore astronomy. The Theme of YATS 2024: Exploring Space
The theme for this edition of YATS, celebrating the achievements of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), was “Will Space be Your Next Travel Destination?”. As part of their recognition, the winners will be granted a unique opportunity to visit an ISRO facility, where they will interact with leading space scientists and learn more about the world of space exploration.
The YATS 2024 program has not only celebrated scientific achievement but also opened doors for young minds to explore the vast possibilities in the world of astronomy and space science.
