UditVani, Jalandhar: Today was the second day of the Balwant Singh hockey tourney which is being held at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium.
Naval Tata Academy-Jamshedpur defeated Major Dhyan Chand Sports College-Safai by 2-1 and Sports Hostel-Lucknow defeated Eknoor Academy-Tehang by 8-2 in the 18th All India Balwant Singh Kapur Hockey Tournament for Mata Prakash Kaur Cup (Under-19 Boys).
The Pool C league match saw Naval Tata Hockey Academy, Jamshedpur, face off against Major Dhyan Chand Sports College, Safai. In the 20th minute, Pralad Rajbhar of Jamshedpur opened the scoring, putting his team ahead 1-0. Just four minutes later, in the 24th minute, Himanshu Yadav from Safai equalized, bringing the score to 1-1. However, in the 40th minute, Jolan Topno of Jamshedpur scored again, giving his team a 2-1 lead.
With this victory, Jamshedpur secured three points from the match. Jolan Topno was named the Best Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
Lucknow Overpowers Eknoor Academy in Pool C, Secures 8-2 Win
Before this, In the first league match of Pool C, Sports Hostel-Lucknow delivered an impressive performance. Muhammad Atif gave Lucknow an early lead by scoring in the 2nd minute, making the score 1-0. However, Eknoor Academy’s Himanshu Bansal equalized in the 5th minute, bringing the score to 1-1.
Lucknow quickly regained control, with Mohammad Atif scoring again in the 10th minute, followed by Shahrukh Khan’s goals in the 19th and 38th minutes, putting Lucknow ahead 4-1. Eknoor Academy’s Akhil Mehmi narrowed the gap with a goal in the 49th minute, making it 2-4.
Lucknow then surged ahead as Ketan Khushwaha scored in the 53rd minute, Shahrukh Khan netted another in the 56th minute, and Ketan Khushwaha added two more in the 57th and 58th minutes, securing a dominant 8-2 victory. Ketan Khushwaha was named the Man of the Match for his outstanding contribution.
Thrilling Draw Between Odisha Naval Tata and SGPC Academy in Pool B:
In the second league match of Pool B, Odisha Naval Tata High Performance Centre-Bhubaneswar and SGPC Academy-Amritsar showcased a thrilling performance. Odisha took the lead in the 22nd minute when Likan Oran scored, making it 1-0. SGPC Academy responded strongly, with Shuhveer Singh finding the back of the net in the 40th minute and Jagjit Singh adding another in the 45th minute, giving SGPC a 2-1 advantage.
However, Odisha’s Bilkal Oran equalized in the 57th minute, leveling the score at 2-2.
With the match ending in a draw, both teams earned one point each. SGPC Academy’s Harshdeep Singh was named the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
