UditVani, Jamshedpur: In a major push towards modernization and capacity building, Indian Railways on Monday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Multi-Disciplinary Divisional Training Institute (MDDTI) at Bagbera in Tatanagar under the Chakradharpur division.
The newly launched training centre is equipped with smart classrooms, digital learning systems, and a functional broad-gauge track model, offering hands-on technical exposure to railway personnel.
Operational models of points & crossings and railway coaches have also been installed to enhance practical training.
Separate model rooms have been developed for key departments including Engineering, Mechanical, Signal & Telecom, and Accounts.
The institute also houses a 100-seat computer lab with Computer-Based Test (CBT) facilities, where employees will receive training in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Speaking to the media after the inauguration, the SER general manager Anil Kumar Mishra emphasized that as the Railways rapidly adopt modern technologies, it is essential for employees to stay technically proficient.
He noted that such training centres are being developed across divisions nationwide to improve efficiency, productivity, and operational excellence.
Tatanagar Station Set for Major Transformation
Mishra revealed that under the Gati Shakti initiative, redevelopment work at Tatanagar Railway Station is progressing swiftly. The new station building is expected to be completed within two-and-a-half years, significantly upgrading passenger infrastructure.
He also announced approvals for key rail expansion projects, including the fourth rail line between Kharagpur and Howrah and the Chandil–Gamharia section.
Work on these projects is expected to begin soon.
Additionally, yard remodeling at Tatanagar is likely to commence in May, which will streamline train operations and improve punctuality for both passenger and freight services.
Railways Partners with XLRI for Advanced Training
In a significant academic collaboration, Indian Railways has partnered with XLRI Jamshedpur to train employees in management, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data analytics.
This marks the first such initiative in the South Eastern Railway zone where XLRI faculty will directly conduct training sessions.
Rail Network Expansion to Ease Congestion
Railway officials highlighted that increasing congestion on existing tracks is the primary cause of train delays, as both freight and passenger trains operate on shared lines.
To address this, multiple expansion projects have been approved:
* Fourth line between Kharagpur–Howrah
* Third and fourth lines on the Gamharia–Chandil section
* Third line between Adityapur and Kharagpur, nearing completion and expected by May
These projects are expected to significantly improve train punctuality and operational efficiency in the region.
Senior railway officials, including DRM Tarun Huria and Senior DCM Aditya Chaudhary were present at the inauguration ceremony.
