UditVani, Jamshedpur : Jamshedpur FC will once again renew their Indian Super League rivalry with NorthEast United FC when they play against them in away fixture on March 15th. The fixture has consistently delivered closely fought contests over the years.
The two sides have met 17 times in the ISL so far, with Jamshedpur FC holding the advantage with seven wins, while NorthEast United FC have won four matches and six encounters have ended in draws.
The numbers underline how competitive the fixture has been since Jamshedpur FC joined the league in 2017. While many matches have been tightly contested, the most recent chapter in the rivalry remains one of the most memorable for Jamshedpur supporters.
The playoff clash between the two teams last season is still fresh in memory. In a tense knockout encounter, Jamshedpur FC secured a 2–0 victory to book their place in the semi-finals. Stephen Eze broke the deadlock before Javi Hernandez delivered the decisive moment with a dramatic stoppage-time strike, sealing the win and sending the home crowd into celebration.
Eze has continued to be a key figure for the team this season. The Nigerian defender has been in excellent form, combining strong defensive work at the back with an ability to contribute goals, making him one of Jamshedpur FC’s most influential players in the early part of the campaign.
Jamshedpur FC have also made an impressive start to the season. Owen Coyle’s side have won all four of their opening matches and currently sit second in the league table with 12 points. They are level on points with Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the top, with only goal difference separating the two sides.
Despite the strong start, head coach Owen Coyle expects a difficult contest against NorthEast United FC.
The Scottish coach acknowledged that the Highlanders remain a tough opponent and stressed that his players will need to maintain their focus and intensity to continue their winning run.
