
UditVani, Jamshedpur : The Railway Protection Force (RPF) carried out major anti-narcotics operations under “Operation Narcos,” seizing a total of 34 kilograms of ganja and arresting four alleged traffickers in separate actions at Tatanagar and Ranchi railway stations.
At Tatanagar Railway Station, the RPF flying squad apprehended two persons -Tabrez Alam and Neyaz Ahmad – with 16 Kgs of contraband ganja during a late-night operation on Thursday.
Acting on the directives of Senior Divisional Security Commissioner P. Shankar Kutty, the team intercepted the accused while conducting surveillance at the station.
The duo, residents of the Bhitaha police station area in Bettiah, West Champaran district of Bihar, were allegedly transporting the consignment from Rupra Road station by Samaleswari Express.
They were reportedly planning to route the consignment via Patna for delivery in Bettiah.
The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth around Rs 8 lakh in the illegal market.
All legal formalities regarding seizure and arrest were completed as per procedure.
In a separate operation in the Ranchi division, the RPF recovered 18 Kgs of ganja from a youth and a girl at Ranchi Railway Station.
The suspects, identified as Raju Kumar (29) and Chhoti Kumari (21), residents of Karghada police station area in Rohtas district, Bihar, were found sitting in a suspicious and nervous condition on Platform No. 1 after the arrival of an express train.
On personal search and inspection of their bags, officials recovered 10 packets from Raju Kumar and 8 packets from Chhoti Kumari.
The total seized contraband weighed 18 kilograms and is estimated to have a market value of approximately Rs 9 lakh.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly disclosed that both the ganja consignment and railway tickets were provided by a person identified as “Bisnu,” a resident of Sambalpur. The consignment was allegedly meant to be delivered at Sasaram station to two individuals.
The seized narcotics were sealed, and the accused were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Ranchi, for further legal action.
RPF officials stated that the crackdown on drug trafficking under Operation Narcos will continue with intensified vigilance across railway stations.
