UditVani, Jamshedpur : Jharkhand has once again slipped into a sharper winter spell, with night temperatures falling well below normal across large parts of the state and a distinct chill returning to the air.
The latest Realised Weather Report issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) from the Meteorological Centre at Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi, today points to a widespread cooling trend, especially during the night hours.
In the state capital Ranchi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 24.7°C, around 1.4°C below the seasonal average, while the minimum dropped to 10.8°C, also below normal.
Jamshedpur experienced a comparatively warmer day with a maximum of 28.0°C, but the night turned significantly colder as the minimum temperature fell to 10.6°C, nearly 4°C below normal, signalling a strong nocturnal cooling.
Daltonganj reported a maximum temperature of 28.6°C, marginally above normal, yet the minimum plunged to 7.1°C, placing it among the colder locations in the state.
Bokaro also felt the returning chill with a maximum of 27.2°C and a minimum of 9.1°C.
Across these centres, the drop in night temperatures stood out as the most defining feature of the day’s weather.
The sharp contrast in temperatures was further highlighted by statewide extremes.
Chaibasa (PTO) emerged as the hottest location with a maximum of 32.0°C, while Gumla AWS recorded the coldest night at just 5.0°C.
Several other districts, including Khunti, Simdega and Lohardaga, also witnessed minimum temperatures hovering in the single digits, reinforcing the return of winter-like conditions.
Weather remained completely dry across Jharkhand, with no rainfall reported in the past 24 hours.
Morning visibility was reduced at a few places, most notably in Jamshedpur, where visibility dropped to 2,000 metres, likely due to haze under calm and dry conditions.
IMD officials attribute the renewed chill to clear skies and dry north-westerly winds, which are allowing rapid heat loss during the night.
With cold nights expected to persist, residents have been advised to remain cautious during early morning and late evening hours as winter makes its presence felt once again across the state.
