UditVani, Jamshedpur : In a stern directive, the Jharkhand High Court has instructed the state government to ensure that the long-pending Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET) is finally conducted by March 2026, before any further steps are taken in teacher recruitment.
The order came during a hearing on Thursday, when the State Education Secretary appeared in person before the court, complying with Wednesday’s summons.
Justice Anand Sen, while presiding over the matter, categorically barred the government from issuing any new recruitment advertisements or initiating the process of filling assistant teacher vacancies until the JTET examination is held and results are declared.
The bench expressed sharp disapproval over the state’s failure to organize JTET for nearly nine years, terming the delay a serious lapse that has deprived thousands of aspirants of fair opportunity.
The matter was brought before the court through a petition filed by Ritesh Mahato and 401 other candidates, represented by advocates Aparajita Bhardwaj and Kushal Kumar.
The court’s ruling is expected to set the stage for long-overdue reforms in Jharkhand’s teacher recruitment process, with aspirants finally hoping for a transparent and timely pathway into the education system.
