UditVani, Jamshedpur : Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren on Tuesday led a massive protest in Chaibasa against the police lathi-charge and tear gas firing on tribal demonstrators late Monday night.
Condemning the police action, Soren held meetings with tribal and community organizations and announced a Kolhan bandh (shutdown) for tomorrow. He said the protest is aimed at exposing the government’s anti-tribal and anti-indigenous stance.
Launching a sharp attack on the state government, Soren accused it of prioritizing illegal mining profits over public safety. He claimed that rampant illegal mining has led to a spike in road accidents across the region, yet authorities continue to ignore the issue.
“This government is protecting the mining mafia instead of protecting its people,” Soren alleged, demanding the immediate release of all 21 arrested protesters.
He vowed to continue the agitation until justice is served and accountability fixed for the alleged police excesses.
