UditVani, Jamshedpur : With the Ghatsila assembly by-election drawing near, security forces have stepped up surveillance along the Jharkhand–Odisha border.
During an intensified vehicle checking drive at the Rasunchopa check post in Potka block close to Odisha border officials seized Rs 12.28 lakh in cash being transported from Odisha into Jharkhand.
The seizure took place under the supervision of executive magistrate Padam Lochan Mahato, accompanied by Kowali police station officer-in-charge Dhananjay Kumar Paswan.
The entire inspection and confiscation process was recorded on video in compliance with election commission guidelines.
According to administrative sources, the money was recovered in four separate incidents — ₹73,000 from one person, ₹1.25 lakh from another, ₹3.5 lakh from a third, and ₹6.8 lakh from a woman named Sunita Sewaiya.
All the cash have been seized, and legal proceedings are underway to verify the sources and purpose of the cash.
Magistrate Mahato said that the checking operations have been further intensified across all entry points to curb the flow of unaccounted money ahead of the bypoll.
The Ghatsila assembly by-election is scheduled for November 11, and authorities have been maintaining round-the-clock vigilance to ensure transparency and prevent the misuse of funds during the electoral process.
