UditVani, Jamshedpur : Even as the southwest monsoon retreats from large parts of the country, Jharkhand remains firmly in the grip of active weather systems, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms set to lash the state in the coming days.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), southern and adjoining central Jharkhand are likely to receive intense showers on September 23 and 24, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Gusty winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph are also expected at isolated locations across the state between September 23 and 26.
The spell is being fuelled by a low-pressure area over the northeast Bay of Bengal, which is tracking west-northwest and may further intensify. Meteorologists added that a second weather system is brewing over the east-central Bay of Bengal and is expected to take shape around September 25. This system could deepen into a depression and move inland, crossing the South Odisha–North Andhra Pradesh coast around September 27.
Meanwhile, persistent rains since yesterday have already disrupted normal life in Jamshedpur and adjoining districts. Overcast skies and intermittent showers greeted residents this morning, leading to waterlogging in several localities.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and adopt safety measures against lightning strikes and squally winds during this active phase of the monsoon.
