UditVani, Jamshedpur : In a major breakthrough, Jamshedpur police solved the high-profile Vardhman Jewellers robbery that took place recently in Gudri Bazaar under Sonari police station.
Six people, including the mastermind behind the heist, have been arrested. The turning point in the investigation came when police recovered a mobile phone from the crime scene, which eventually led them straight to the culprits.
Investigations revealed that the robbers stormed the jewellery shop on motorcycles and fled with the loot. To destroy evidence, they later dumped one of the bikes in Kathjod pond at Chandil. However, their plan backfired as the abandoned mobile phone provided crucial call records, location data, and contacts that helped investigators piece together the gang’s network.
CCTV footage from the market area further confirmed the suspects’ identities. Police have established that the arrested men are members of a larger criminal gang that has been active in several such robberies across the state.
Taking the case seriously, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT moved swiftly, managing to trace and arrest half of the gang within days. The hunt is now on for the remaining members, while efforts are also underway to recover the stolen jewellery and cash.
“The mobile phone left at the crime scene proved to be the biggest clue. With its help, six accused have been arrested. The search for the remaining members is ongoing, and they will be arrested soon,” said the SSP, Jamshedpur.
The breakthrough has come as a relief to the city’s traders, many of whom had expressed concern over the rising number of robberies. Residents and business owners have welcomed the police action, hoping the remaining culprits will soon be behind bars.
