Jamshedpur: The ACB today arrested senior Jharkhand IAS officer Vinay Choubey .
This is possibly the first time that ACB has arrested an officer of IAS rank.
He was summoned to the ACB office for questioning today. After the questioning, a medical team reached the ACB office, and after a health check-up, Vinay Choubey was arrested.
Vinay Choubey had previously served as the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Hemant Soren. His arrest is being seen as a major action.
However, when his name surfaced in the liquor scam, he was removed from the position and appointed as the Panchayati Raj Secretary.
Involvement in liquor scam
Earlier, the Chhattisgarh ACB had sought permission to file a case against former Jharkhand Excise Secretary Vinay Choubey and Joint Commissioner of Excise Garja Singh for their alleged involvement in the liquor scam. The ACB had sent a letter to the Jharkhand government regarding this.
Currently, Vinay Choubey is the Principal Secretary of the Panchayati Raj Department. Ranchi resident Vikas Kumar had filed a complaint with the Chhattisgarh ACB against both Chhattisgarh excise officials as well as officials from Jharkhand’s Excise Department.
After a preliminary investigation, based on the statements of Inspector-rank officers, FIRs were filed against all accused. Charges include giving illegal benefits to the liquor syndicate. The Chhattisgarh ACB also found that IAS officer Anil Tuteja, businessman Anwar Dhabe, and other officials had changed liquor policy in Jharkhand for illegal gains.
