Jamshedpur : A series of tragic road accidents across Jharkhand on Wednesday claimed six lives and left four others critically injured, casting a grim shadow over the state’s highways.
The deadliest of the incidents unfolded near Baihatu village on the Chaibasa-Chakradharpur highway in West Singhbhum district. A mini goods carrier collided head-on with a truck, resulting in the deaths of three passengers—35-year-old Seenu Purti, 36-year-old Ganga Jarika, and 30-year-old Shivram Hembram—who were killed instantly.
Another passenger, 35-year-old Jagdish Hembram, sustained serious injuries and was referred to Tata Main Hospital for advanced treatment.
The impact left the Tata Magic vehicle severely mangled. Locals, along with the police, scrambled to pull out the victims and rushed them to the hospital. Chaibasa Mufassil police station in-charge Chandrashekhar Kumar confirmed that three victims were declared dead on arrival. Postmortems are underway.
In a separate incident in Hazaribagh’s Jawahar Valley under Barhi police station, a Bolero SUV broke through the guardrail of the Jawahar Bridge and plunged into Tilaiya Dam. The vehicle was returning from a wedding in Koderma.
Two of the four occupants, Saurabh and Sandeep, miraculously swam to safety. However, Rahul Sonkar and another passenger named Ashish lost their lives. While Rahul’s body was recovered by rescue teams, the search for Ashish continued late into the evening. A crane was deployed to retrieve the submerged vehicle.
The third tragedy occurred in Latehar district, near Pochra Mor under Sadar police station, where a motorcycle collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw.
Ashfaq Ansari was killed on the spot, while Waris Ansari was gravely injured and rushed to RIMS Hospital in Ranchi for urgent care.
