Uditvani, Jharkhand: In a significant step towards enhancing India’s energy infrastructure, Coal India Limited (CIL) and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop two ultra supercritical thermal power units of 800 MW each at the Chandrapura Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Jharkhand.
This collaboration marks a strategic initiative to boost power generation capacity using advanced ultra supercritical technology, which offers improved efficiency and reduced emissions compared to conventional coal-based power plants.
The MoU not only focuses on the development of the 2×800 MW thermal units but also paves the way for broader cooperation between the two entities in both thermal and renewable energy projects. This move aligns with the national agenda of ensuring energy security while transitioning towards cleaner and more sustainable power sources.
By leveraging each other’s strengths—CIL’s vast coal reserves and DVC’s operational expertise in power generation—the partnership is expected to accelerate the implementation of high-efficiency, low-emission (HELE) power projects and explore innovative models for integrating renewable energy into the grid.
The joint venture could serve as a blueprint for future collaborations in India’s evolving energy landscape.
