
UditVani, Jamshedpur: In a brazen act that has sent ripples of fear across steel city, a loco pilot was gunned down near the running room close to Tatanagar Railway Station late Sunday night.
The victim, identified as Gyanendra Kumar Gautam hailing from Adityapur in Seraikela-Kharsawan district, was attacked while heading for duty.
According to police, the incident unfolded around midnight when Gautam was on his way to the railway lobby.
Two assailants, believed to have been lying in wait, arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at close range.
He was struck by multiple bullets, including a fatal shot to the chest, and collapsed on the spot.
“The attack appears to be targeted and carried out with precision. We are examining all possible angles,” a senior police officer said at the spot.
The sudden gunfire triggered panic in the vicinity, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement.
Senior officers, including the City SP, rushed to the spot and sealed the area. Preliminary findings suggest the attackers fled towards Bagbera after the shooting. Police teams are scanning CCTV footage and conducting raids to track down those involved.
“We are working with all available leads and are confident of cracking the case, at the earliest,” another officer added.
The killing has deeply unsettled railway personnel and residents, raising fresh concerns over security in and around the busy railway zone.
