UditVani, Jamshedpur : In a shocking incident that has sent ripples across the city, fruit trader Kanhaiya Yadav, who was critically injured in a daylight shooting at Namda Basti under Golmuri police station area on Wednesday morning, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Tata Main Hospital (TMH).
According to eyewitnesses, two unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened indiscriminate fire at Yadav.
Nearly five rounds were reportedly fired, leaving him grievously wounded.
The sudden burst of gunfire triggered panic in the locality, with residents scrambling for safety.
The attackers fled the spot immediately after executing the attack.
Notably, the incident occurred barely 50 metres from the Golmuri police station.
Yadav was rushed to TMH in critical condition, where he was undergoing treatment under close medical supervision.
However, despite efforts by doctors, he later died.
Old Rivalry Suspected
Sources indicate that the attack may be linked to a long-standing dispute dating back to 2016 over the presidency of the Tinplate Kali Mandir Committee.
While Billa previously held the post, Yadav later became the committee president.
Investigators suspect that the rivalry stemming from this leadership tussle may have led to the fatal assault.
The names of Billa and Vicky Singh alias Kundi have surfaced in connection with the case, though police have not officially confirmed the involvement of any individual so far. Raids are being conducted to trace the accused.
Investigation Underway
Police personnel reached the spot soon after receiving information and cordoned off the area. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined as part of the investigation.
Officials have assured that the culprits will be arrested soon and the case will be solved expeditiously.
Law and Order Under Scrutiny
The brazen killing, carried out in broad daylight and in close proximity to a police station, has raised serious concerns over law and order in the city – particularly at a time when the Model Code of Conduct is in force for civic body elections.
Over the past year, Jamshedpur has witnessed a disturbing rise in criminal activities, including encounters, kidnappings, and daylight shootings.
The open circulation of narcotics and the recent exposure of an illegal arms manufacturing unit have further compounded public anxiety.
The Golmuri shooting once again underscores growing fears that criminals are operating without fear, striking at will even in high-security zones.
