Jamshedpur : A Gram Sabha was held on Tuesday in Inchada village regarding the renewal of the Rakha Copper Mines lease. Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) presented its proposal for lease renewal, which was approved by the villagers after the company addressed their concerns in a structured manner.
While the Inchada villagers actively participated in the meeting, residents from Dharmdih and Eenta-Bhatta villages remained absent due to lack of proper information and publicity.
As a result, a significant portion of the local population stayed away from the proceedings, raising concerns that the Gram Sabha became a mere formality.
During the meeting, locals raised the issue of bribes being demanded in exchange for employment.
Responding to this, HCL Deputy General Manager Deepak Srivastava firmly stated that employment will be provided based on recommendations by the village heads, and no bribes are required. He encouraged villagers to report any such demands to the company.
He added that employment opportunities, especially for the poor and needy, will be prioritized. The project has a 30-year tender and will provide steady employment for at least 20 years.
Skill development programs will also be launched to prepare locals for these jobs. However, production is expected to start only after four years.
HCL Senior Manager Arjun Lohra assured that the recruitment process will be transparent and conducted through the village heads. He announced that 1,500 people will be employed over the next five years. Senior-level positions will be filled from outside the region.
In terms of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the company committed to providing the village with infrastructure such as water towers, high-mast lights, street lights, school equipment like smart classrooms, and playground leveling.
Additionally, rural roads will be repaired, farmers will be supported with tools, and self-help group women will be trained in making puffed rice, spices, and jute bags to promote self-reliance.
HCL officials present included Deepak Srivastava (Deputy General Manager, Project), Kamlesh Kumar (Chief Manager, HR), Arjun Lohra (Senior Manager), Kanhai Lal Hansda (Musabani Block Representative), N.S. Jangde (Assistant Deputy General Manager), and Sameer Kumar (Deputy GM, Mechanical).
From the villagers’ side, local representatives like Chief Manjeet Singh, North Inchada Chief Manjari Banra, Rupak Mandal, Village Head Samesh Mandal, Tulsi Bhakt, and Subhash Singh were present
