Uditvani: Jharkhand braces for a prolonged spell of scorching temperatures and dry weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a heatwave alert for multiple districts across the state.
Hot and oppressive weather conditions are set to persist across several regions of Jharkhand in the coming days.
The India Meteorological Department has forecasted a sharp rise in day temperatures, with heatwave conditions expected to affect both eastern and northeastern districts of the state.
According to IMD officials, isolated areas in the northeastern parts of Jharkhand—particularly around Santhal Pargana—will start experiencing hot and humid conditions from May 11.
The situation is anticipated to worsen from May 12, as temperatures soar beyond the heatwave threshold of 40°C, compounded by high humidity levels.
Districts under heatwave alert on May 12 include:
* Dumka
* Pakur
* Godda
* Sahibganj
By May 13, the intensity and spread of the heatwave are expected to escalate, bringing additional districts under alert. These include:
* Bokaro
* Dhanbad
* Giridih
* Deoghar
* Jamtara
Meteorologists explain that while a weak upper air cyclonic circulation persists over Northeast Assam and nearby regions—up to 3.1 Km above mean sea level—no significant synoptic system is currently influencing Jharkhand.
This absence of atmospheric disturbances makes the region more susceptible to intense solar radiation and dry, stagnant air masses, creating ideal conditions for a heatwave.

Weathermen have urged residents in the affected districts to exercise caution during this period. Key recommendations include:
* Avoid going out during peak afternoon hours (12 pm to 4 pm )
* Stay well-hydrated
* Wear loose, light-colored clothing
* Check on vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and children
* Refrain from strenuous outdoor activities
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and may upgrade alerts if conditions worsen.
Schools, outdoor workers, and emergency services are advised to remain vigilant and implement heat-safety measures promptly.
