Jamshedpur : In a solemn and inspiring ceremony held at the District Civil Court’s Bar Bhawan, a life-size portrait of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was unveiled, paying homage to the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.
Spearheaded by the city’s legal community, the initiative underscored a growing movement to honor India’s constitutional visionaries within judicial institutions.
Installed in the main hall on the ground floor of the Bar Bhawan, the portrait was inaugurated in the presence of senior advocates, officials from the Bar Association, and members of the Jharkhand State Bar Council.
The event served as both a tribute and a symbolic reaffirmation of Ambedkar’s lasting legacy in justice, equality, and democratic governance.
Resolution Urges Statues of Founding Leaders Across Courts
The occasion was marked by the passage of a formal resolution advocating the installation of life-size statues of key members of the Constituent Assembly — including Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Sachchidanand Sinha, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar — in courts across the country. The resolution emphasized that showcasing these figures would serve to educate and inspire future generations about the foundational ideals of Indian democracy and nation-building.
Call for Honouring Tribal Icon Jaipal Singh Munda
Advocate Sudhir Kumar Pappu highlighted the significant contributions of tribal leader Jaipal Singh Munda, a Constituent Assembly member and staunch advocate for tribal rights. He proposed that statues of Munda be installed in district and sub-divisional courts across Jharkhand, acknowledging his historical role and preserving his legacy for posterity.
The speakers at the event also reiterated the importance of Scheduled Castes and Tribes in the pursuit of justice, social equity, and women’s empowerment, with Dr. Ambedkar hailed as a timeless symbol of these ideals.
Veteran Legal Staffer Honoured for Over Five Decades of Service
A highlight of the program was the heartfelt felicitation of Sushant Namta Bhondu, a long-serving office staffer of the Bar Association, who has dedicated more than 53 years to the institution. He was honored with a traditional shawl and garland in recognition of his unwavering commitment to the legal community.

The event witnessed the active participation of leading figures from the legal world, including Jharkhand State Bar Council Vice President Rajesh Kumar Shukla, Bar Association President Rathindra Nath Das, former presidents Manoranjan Das and Tapas Mitra, former Public Prosecutor PN Gope, and several senior advocates.
Others present included Ganesh Murmu, Malkit Singh Saini, Subramaniam Swamy, Anandu Mishra, Rajkumar Sharma, and Ratan Chakraborty, among many others — signaling a strong collective endorsement of the ceremony’s message and mission.
