UditVani, Mumbai : Tata Steel has once again earned global appreciation by receiving the *World Steel Association (worldsteel) Safety and Health Excellence Recognition 2025* in the category of *Process Safety Management* for its project titled “Preventing Loss of Containment of Hot Metal through Safety Instrumented System in Rail-based Hot Metal Transport.”
The award acknowledges Tata Steel’s innovative safety initiative designed to prevent derailments of torpedo ladle cars carrying molten iron—a high-risk operation in integrated steel plants. The company implemented a cutting-edge *Safety Instrumented System* that integrates proximity and optical sensors with an automated logic controller across its 62-km internal rail network. This system eliminates human error during track switching, automatically verifies track alignment, and prevents incorrect route settings to ensure safe and reliable transport of molten metal.
Rajiv Mangal, Vice President – Safety, Health & Sustainability at Tata Steel, said the recognition reflects the company’s deep commitment to safety excellence. “This recognition from worldsteel is a proud moment for all of us at Tata Steel. It reflects our steadfast commitment to strengthening process safety systems and embedding barrier-based risk management across our operations,” he stated.
This milestone marks Tata Steel’s third consecutive recognition from worldsteel, reaffirming its position as the only Indian steel producer to consistently achieve excellence in process safety management.
The *World Steel Association* annually recognises outstanding safety and health practices from member companies worldwide. In 2025, five global initiatives were honoured for their contributions to safety culture, occupational safety, health, and process safety.
