
UditVani, Jamshedpur : Tata Steel Zoological Society (TSZS) bid farewell to Dr. M. Palit on the occasion of his superannuation after an illustrious career spanning 31 years of dedicated service to the zoo and its animals.
The farewell ceremony was attended by Shri Raghunath Pandey, President, TSZS Workers Union; Captain Amitabh, Hon. Secretary; Shri Vikas Kumar, Member HR; Shri Rahul Kumar; and Dr. Naim Akhtar.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Pandey thanked Dr. Palit for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of animals and the zoo’s growth. Captain Amitabh highlighted his compassionate leadership, deep care for both animals and staff, and his ability to inspire confidence. Dr. Naim Akhtar recalled his team spirit and constant support in day-to-day management, which ensured smooth functioning of the zoo. Colleagues including Mr. Susen Mahato, Archit, and Dr. M. Kumar shared their learning experiences while working under his mentorship.
In his farewell address, Dr. Palit recalled his journey since joining the zoo on May 16, 1994, describing it as “a pilgrimage filled with challenges, learning, and unforgettable experiences.” He fondly remembered milestones such as the rescue of Ranjan, the crocodile, in 2010, which remains a deeply emotional chapter of his career.
He expressed gratitude to his mentors, colleagues, veterinary and support staff, and the management of Tata Steel Zoological Society for their constant encouragement, teamwork, and guidance. “The sparkle in the eyes of children visiting the zoo has always been my greatest inspiration. I believe our work is not just about care and treatment, but about inspiring future generations to love and respect nature and wildlife,” he said.
Dr. Palit thanked his family for their unwavering support, calling them his greatest strength throughout his professional journey. He concluded with a heartfelt message: “May the future generations remember the zoo as a symbol of conservation, care, and compassion, and may its spirit continue to inspire all who walk through its gates.”
The ceremony concluded with warm wishes for his new journey in life, acknowledging his invaluable contribution to the zoo and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
