
Udit Vani, Jamshedpur: The southwest monsoon finally arrived in Jharkhand on Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief after a two-day delay.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that monsoon winds have reached key districts including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, and Bokaro, marking the official start of the rainy season.
The normal arrival date of monsoon in Jharkhand is June 15.
Early morning showers were recorded in parts of southern and central Jharkhand, with rainfall activity expected to intensify in the coming days. The IMD predicts the monsoon will cover the entire state within the next 48 hours.
The arrival of rains has brought hope to the farming community, which depends on timely monsoon showers for the cultivation of paddy and other kharif crops. “The delay worried us, but now we can start preparing our fields,” said Ramesh Mahto, a farmer in Hazaribagh.
Weather officials have forecast a normal monsoon for Jharkhand this year, which is expected to improve groundwater levels and support agricultural productivity after a dry pre-monsoon spell.
According to weathermen, widespread rain across the state is expected this week alingwith cooler temperatures and improved air quality.
Farmers have been urged to begin sowing preparations by the meteorogical and agriculture department.
Residents are advised to stay updated with local weather bulletins and follow advisories, especially in flood-prone areas.
